Community Newsletter (September 2026)

The school year has started strong, and the Pflugerville Education Foundation has been busy. Here's a look at the month's highlights, plus two big events coming up this fall.

Teacher Spotlight: Ms. Muñoz, CharterUP Grant Winner

PEF was thrilled to nominate Highland Park teacher Ms. Muñoz for CharterUP's teacher grant — and she won: $1,000 in funding plus $1,000 in transportation support for her Ballet Folklórico after-school program. The program gives Title I students a place to belong after school: to dance, hang out, and be with their peers. Ms. Muñoz has even used her own money to buy and sew the students' uniforms. As her nomination put it, "her passion for students goes beyond the classroom."

Community Partnerships

Toyota North Austin signed on as a Tailgate Sponsor this year and is backing the Home Library Initiative with a donation to Bloom. They're also exploring internship opportunities so PfISD students can get hands-on experience in the automotive field.

PEF is partnering with Julie Schwarz to get books and additional resources into the hands of SPED students and staff.

Goodera is coordinating in-kind donations for PfISD classrooms — think educational supply kits, gardening kits, and toys for our SPED programs.

An in-kind agreement with Amazon is in the works to bring overstock donations to PfISD classrooms; approval is pending.

IKEA has already come through with a completed in-kind agreement for overstock donations headed to PfISD.

Grants & Initiatives

Home Library Initiative Kicks off October 1st!

The Home Library Initiative pairs PfISD classrooms with volunteer readers from October through May, sending books home so every student builds a library of their own. This year's launch is supported by partners and donors who help get those books into kids' hands.

Application Open for Educator Mini-Grants

PFund Me Mini Grants give PfISD staff 1,000–2,000 to bring a classroom idea to life: new tools, creative teaching methods, or ways to boost student engagement. Any full-time staff member can apply with campus approval; applications are open now through October 24, 2026.

Tailgate on the Tees Golf Tournament Returns October 16

Join us for the Tailgate on the Tees Golf Tournament on Friday, October 16, 2026, at Forest Creek Golf Club in Round Rock. This signature fundraiser supports programs that benefit students and educators across Pflugerville ISD while bringing our community together for a day of golf, food, fun, and friendly competition.

Want to sponsor? We're still growing our sponsor lineup — if you know a business that wants to back local schools, point them to PEF at karl.spencer@thepfoundation.org or 512-594-0171.

Want to play? A limited number of foursome and individual player spots are still available. Register here.

Want to help? We're also seeking volunteers to help create an outstanding experience for our golfers, sponsors, and guests. Sign up to volunteer here.

Don't miss your chance to support a great cause and be part of one of the Foundation's most anticipated events of the year!

State of the District

Join us Tuesday, November 10, 2026, 11:00 AM – 1:30 PM for the annual State of the District. Full details and registration are on the PEF website.

Volunteer With Us

Our work this summer — from stocking library shelves to filling backpacks — happens because volunteers show up. We need help with our ongoing library initiative (sorting, shelving, and distributing new books to PfISD elementary campuses) and with general volunteer opportunities throughout the school year, including events, donor outreach, and campus support.

Ready to get involved? Sign up to become a Pfriend of the Pfoundation, and we'll match you to an opportunity: https://thepfoundation.org/pfriends/page.html
